Anita Gauran feeds a repertoire of materials – collected or manufactured but always using processes that “adhere” to reality (prints, photography, sampling, etc.) – that she confronts with each other in order to create anachronisms. Here, two images of a collection of fossil stones taken through a display case, again put at a distance by a plexiglass plate whose protective film, partly removed, falls into an elegant antique drape.
Fossil brings to light a form of fictional archaeology where the strata are superimposed, literally and figuratively, in order to question our relationship to art and history.
