Exhibition 2023, Past
Galerie & château Madame De Garffigny, Villers-lès-Nancy
May 26 to August 20, 2023
Opening Friday, June 9, 8 p.m.
Madame de Graffigny's château is emblematic of the Greater Nancy Metropolis. Owned by Villers-lès-Nancy since the mid-80s, its vocation has always been to host activities linked to the creation and dissemination of culture. The park and château were named after its famous owner, Françoise de Graffigny, an 18th-century woman of letters and friend of Voltaire.
Since 2013, a gallery has offered exhibitions by local and international artists. Today, the town wishes to restore the château and turn it into a cultural venue open to all.
Françoise de Graffigny is the author of the famous novel "Lettres d'une Péruvienne en 1747". She was one of the most important women in 18th-century literature, and the first woman in France to gain her independence through writing.
"BEN ON BEN
Reading Mme de Graffigny
I thought that Letters from a Peruvian Woman
Was the secret biography
the life of
Françoise de Graffigny
of his fantasies
so I said to myself
"and if I did six paintings
from sentences
from his book
So I wrote him this letter
DEAR MADAME DE GRAFFIGNY
why did you ask me to come and exhibit in your home?
DEAR MADAME DE GRAFFIGNY
I read you with pleasure
I imagined you
reading me
beautiful, naked and smiling".
