Frédéric Bauchet
Artist, teacher and curator, responsible for the ceramic workshop at the Villa Arson since 2001. Since his arrival, Frédéric Bauchet has initiated a teaching of ceramics closely associated with the challenges of contemporary creation. He has contributed to broadening the field of technical possibilities while building bridges between the ceramic workshop and other workshop practices.
The presence of artists in residence at the Villa Arson represents in his eyes a major complement to his teaching. It is important to him to privilege the meeting, the exchange and to accompany each invited artist. He is himself regularly invited for workshops in France and abroad. He has actively worked to build links between national and international art schools with ceramic workshops. Actions carried out also through the ECART network (European Ceramic Art & Research Team) since 2008. Projects are under development with universities in Japan and the United States.
Frédéric Bauchet constantly questions the historical, political, poetic and phenomenological components of ceramics through his plastic work. During his numerous art residencies at the Manufacture nationale de Sèvres, an exceptional center of know-how and creation, his conceptual approach to the medium has been enriched by contact with the techniques and forms specific to ceramics, while remaining very attentive to new technical and technological advances. As in his transmission, Frédéric Bauchet’s plastic work calls upon other mediums: sound, silk-screening, performance.
