Hugues Reip<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

“A versatile artist, graphic designer, video artist, photographer and sculptor, Hugues Reip tries to bring out unusual and surprising aspects of an object, a place or a situation. “I remember the engravings accompanying the stories of Jules Verne, which, making the unreal true, evoked a world that would have a body, a time, a visible space different from ours … but in the same place, “explains the artist. By taking out of the banality of anodyne objects of which he modifies elements, the scale for example, Reip creates irrational atmospheres within which the spectator is confronted with a universe of objects distorted to the point of not being conceivable anymore. “Nadine Labedade<\/p>\n

“His way of composing or of making appear here and there a whole world of unthinkable landscapes, miniature or galactic, in turn enchanting or disturbing, made of projections, of patches, of collages here, of illustrations magnetized there, in a word of an insatiable bric-a-brac, acts a creative disposition which plays with any rational consideration and any exclusive doxa. There is a boundless fantasy which has no rule but the pure pleasure of plastic invention, no method but the shock of the hybrid and no purpose but the instruction of a poetics. Hugues Reip’s world is totally out of sync and that is what makes it so enchanting. In the great tradition of Jonathan Swift’s books, Max Ernst’s plastic art, Miyazaki’s cinema, his approach is an invitation to reflect on our relationship with nature, our environment, and even our behavior towards them.
