The Eva Vautier Gallery is pleased to present Florian Sch\u00f6nerstedt’s first solo exhibition, a comprehensive exhibition <\/i>. This project is supported by Cnap<\/a> (Centre national des arts plastiques). <\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

According to the art historian Paul Ardenne, ” Director of short animation films, Florian Sch\u00f6nerstedt soon moved into the field of research, particularly in Artificial Intelligence. His work evolves strongly but, as far as he is concerned, without ever abandoning a relationship that we will say elementary, substantial, to reality, his reality. The collection of its domestic waste, thus, will give rise to a vast creation intermingling ecology, social ethics and archaeology. His interest, which one could say romantic, sensitive, for the leaves fallen on the ground in autumn, still, leads to an advanced aesthetic research, led by an AI, on the metamorphosis… The artist, if he is a transformer, is also transformed in contact with a world here of the most evolutionary, whose mutations condition in return that of the work of art. Florian Sch\u00f6nerstedt – a transformer itself transformed. <\/i>“ <\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Comprehensive exhibition <\/i>puts two series of Florian Sch\u00f6nerstedt: Maps of the battlefield <\/i>and Leaves of the non-existent tree<\/i>. This is the first time that these complementary artistic researches are presented together. The exhibition sheds light on their points of overlap, recurrence and the directions taken, making these researches the adventure of a single author. <\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Battlefield Maps <\/i>is a protocol activated by the artist, throughout 2016. He collected all the waste his household generated. By removing soiled items, dust and organics, he created a stable archive of everything that was destined for the trash. From this raw material, Florian Sch\u00f6nerstedt digitizes each element one by one by scanning them. In an exhaustive way, all the elements are present for the time of a photogram, forming an experimental animation film of about ten minutes (produced by the company Girelle Production, with the support of the Eva Vautier gallery). This series stages the grey area of everyday life, a confrontation between reality and ecological ideal. The collection and scientific archiving of waste allows him to become aware through analysis. <\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The Leaves of the Non-Existent Tree, <\/i>begins in 2017, in collaboration with artificial intelligence researcher, Romain Trachel. This collaboration focused on image generation programs that implement G.A.N. (Generative Adverserial Network) learning algorithms. In a logic of voluntary enslavement, Florian Sch\u00f6nerstedt decides to feed the machine (or the monster). As opposed to waste, it is a question here of collecting plant leaves, which he dries, archives and digitizes. The simplicity of the work constraint linked to the creation of this database is inversely proportional to the amount of work necessary to its realization. Indeed, it is about ten thousands of images to realize so that the images generated by the machine are confused with those of the database. <\/span><\/p>\n

\nIn parallel, a second exhibition will be held from April 22 to May 14, 2023 at theEspace de l’Art Concret<\/a> (Mouans-Sartoux). This exhibition is part of the Art and Worlds of Work residency program, piloted by the DRAC PACA, during which the artist was hosted by the partner company, SAP Labs France.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
